Welcome to the DFW English Springer Spaniel Association

Rita, owned by Nancy Johnson

The Dallas-Ft. Worth English Springer Spaniel Association, Inc. (DFWESSA) is a Texas-based, nonprofit AKC-licensed club.

We recognize the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association, Inc. (ESSFTA) as the Parent Club of the breed and the only entity sanctioned as the steward of the breed standard. The ESSFTA also provides rules for Springer-only performance events in the U.S.

DFWESSA conducts AKC-licensed conformation, obedience, rally, agility and hunt test events, and our members are involved in all of these activities with our versatile breed.

In addition, DFWESSA is a strong supporter of our partner in breed rescue, English Springer Rescue America.

Above all, we love and appreciate these wonderful dogs as members of our families, and we are dedicated to educating the public about the English Springer Spaniel.

Mary Johnson

The DFWESSA family greatly misses our charter member, Mary Johnson, who passed away August 26, 2009.

Mary was our one and only secretary from the inception of the club in 1992. She played a major role in obtaining our AKC approval with her tedious documentation of our club's activities.

For years, Mary produced the Paw Prints club newsletter where she excelled in spreading the word of our very active membership.

Mary helped house many rescue dogs in the name of DFWESSA, prior to the existence of our current rescue partner English Springer Rescue America (ESRA).

Mary ensured that our club become financially solvent by serving as the trial secretary for each and every one of our agility trials for 12 years without accepting any form of compensation.

She spent hours inputting and outputting all the necessary data to make each agility trial run smoothly. She acted as mentor to many other trial secretaries new to the role and treated each and every exhibitor with enthusiasm when their dogs ran well.

Mary is irreplaceable in our hearts and we miss her very much.
